Lid Camera Didn't Take a Picture

While you're busy creating, your printer's lid camera does a lot of work! It provides a view of your material and helps calibrate your printer during startup. So if the lid camera can't take a picture, you'll see a message in the app.

Here's how to get back on track!

Troubleshooting Steps

If the lid camera can't take a picture, there may be an issue with one of the lid cables. First, check that the lid cables are connected properly.

Follow these steps to check the connections:

    1. Turn off your printer and open the lid.

    2. Gently push on each of the clips pictured below to ensure that they are closed. Each clip should lie flat, and you shouldn't be able to flip it in any direction.

A Glowforge with its lid open. The 3 connections on the black lid cable near its hinge and the 2 connections on the white lid cable leading to the camera are circled.

    3. If any of the clips are open, gently close them. Then turn your Glowforge back on, and it will run the calibration again.

If you still get a message that the camera didn't take a picture and all of your lid cable connections are clean, inserted correctly and undamaged, it's likely that the black lid cable on your printer needs to be replaced. Replacement cables can be ordered from our shop here.

If installing the new cable doesn’t lead to your camera taking pictures, please contact our team and we'll be happy to help!
