Print on Small Pieces of Material

As you create things with your Glowforge, you’ll start to accumulate small scraps of leftover material. You may be tempted to throw those away, or, you may be inspired to print on these scraps and other small material.

Here are some tips to help you get the best alignment and print results on those small pieces.

Tips for printing on small pieces of material

  • Make sure that you select the correct material, or enter your material height if using something other than Proofgrade™ material.
  • Run Set Focus before you arrange your artwork to print.
  • Always use objects with the same thickness during a single print.

Troubleshoot issues when printing on small pieces of material

Here are some tips if you’re printing on small objects or small pieces of material and get any of these less than wonderful results:

  • Your engraves look fuzzy.
  • The material isn’t cut all the way through.
  • The print is misaligned (your finished print is more than ¼” (0.6 cm) away from the location you see in the preview in the app).
  • You get an error message after pressing Print.

If any of these things happen, it’s possible that your Glowforge ran into trouble when measuring the height of your material.

Many times you can fix these problems by running Set Focus to ensure that your printer is taking the height measurement of your material correctly. With Set Focus, before you print, you select an area to take a precision measurement of the height of your material.

If you followed these tips and still have trouble with the print results on small objects, contact Glowforge Support for assistance. Please include the date and time of the print you ran into trouble with and the type of material you were using. We’re here to help.
