Printable Area
Glowforge Machines
Your Performance Series Glowforge can create individual prints up to 11 in x 19.5 in.
Your Glowforge Aura can create prints up to 12 in x 12 in.
Depending on the settings you choose, you may encounter a smaller print area.
Here's why:
When the head moves quickly, it needs additional room to slow down, so there are margins on the left and right. For prints with engravings and high-speed scoring operations, the margins are larger and the printable area is smaller. Manual settings will allow you to engrave in the margins, at the possible expense of lower quality. This feature is in beta.
You can learn more about engraving in the margins here.
Clean canvas mode (all users)
When using the clean canvas (without the camera bed image), the design area is determined by the canvas size. To switch to this view, click on the top right menu dropdown, and select the default canvas or enter your custom canvas size. The canvas size is set by the machine selected in the Machine dropdown in the upper left corner of the workspace.
- If you have a Glowforge connected, the canvas matches your machine's printable area.
- If no machine is selected, the default canvas size is 12 x 20 inches.
- You can change the canvas size at any time by selecting a different machine from the Machine dropdown.
For non-Glowforge laser owners:
The canvas size sets the boundary for your design layout. When you export your design, the exported file will reflect the layout within this canvas. Your actual cutting/engraving area will depend on your specific laser's bed size — configure that in your laser's own software (such as LightBurn, xTool Creative Space, or RDWorks) after exporting.
